September 11th~Old Time Fiddlers Jam Session in West Valley

The Salt Lake Chapter of the Utah Old Time Fiddlers holds Jam Sessions on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. Families are invited to come listen, and players of any age are welcome to bring their instruments and join in on the jam.

Ongoing~Storytime at The Kings English Bookstore in Salt Lake

We recently spoke to the kind folks at Kings English Bookstore, and are excited to go check this place out for the first time. From what we have heard, Kings English is the kind of bookstore that has more of that mom and pop sort of homey feel, and less of that big commercialized chain store feel. {look how cute it is!}

And we just found out that they have children’s storytimes every Thursday, Friday and Saturday! These are free events of course, and all ages are welcome. The Kings English will be a regular part of the Weekend Update now, and we will let you know of any other free family events that they hold.

We also hear that on the first Saturday of the month they have a R.E.A.D dog drop by to read to!

Our local Lakeshore store has free crafts for your kiddos each Saturday giving you the perfect opportunity to shop!

These are really fun crafts and activities! In case you weren’t aware, Lakeshore learning sells high quality teaching materials. If you have never tried their stuff, we recommend you check them out. This is a reoccurring event every Saturday.

On September 11th they will be making an Amazing Art Hangers!

So much to see and explore for any age! This museum rarely discounts so be on the lookout for 2 for 1 coupons that sometimes pop up in newspaper inserts, as well as in the utah family publication found at most libraries.

When you arrive at the museum, be sure to ask at the front counter for a list of the scheduled classes for that day, as well as any special exhibits they have going on right then. They have great instuctors and your child will love the little worshops and classes!

Another Tip: Park in Winter parking and ask for a validation. They sell them for $1 and makes it $1 for up to three hours, with the convenience of nearby parking.

Past Event ~ Free Home Depot Kids Workshops

On the first Saturday of the month Home Depot offers a fun FREE Kid Workshop.

On September 4th they will be making a Wooden Football Display!

Their site says ”The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.”

Each child also receives a kid-sized orange apron just like the employees wear and some sort of recognition item, like a certificate or a pin. Plus they get to take home their creation! This is while supplies last.

Ongoing in August~Thanksgiving Point $2 Tuesdays are back!

Just a reminder…

This was a huge hit last year, Thanksgiving Point is offering $2 admission per person to any venue on Tuesdays in August! You can chose between Museum of Ancient Life, Farm Country, and the Thanksgiving Point Gardens, and for this this price, it is a total steal! However, expect to wait in long lines even at time of opening. We recommend the Gardens as the place to visit since the open space is much more conducive to accommodating masses of people.

Ooh and this is fun! The website says:

Ongoing~Artist Designed Mini Golf at the Salt Lake Art Center

This is an art exhibit like you probably have not seen before! A fully playable miniature golf course made from contemporary art, and it’s free to play! Admission is always free at the Art Center.

The exhibit runs through the 16th of September.
