If you were to ask us for only one cheap way to have a great time with your kids in the city, we would tell you to take advantage of your local library system!!! What could be better than raising strong readers? Free books, movies, cd’s, books on tape and more! If you think your kids are too unruly for the library, think again! Take them to puppet shows, crafts make and takes, book clubs, story times, etc where they are allowed to talk in more than a “six inch whisper”. They will love it and slowly grow to love the quieter parts of the library as well. We promise!

****************************************************************************

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it a thousand times…take your kids to the library!! Often. We love to tell you about events at the COUNTY libraries, but don’t forget we are also fortunate to also have all of the CITY libraries with fun FREE stuff going on for families!

Also, if you have been debating whether or not to get a city library card, here is one great reason to do so. Kids can read down their own fines! Here’s the details:

Did you know that if you’re under 18, you can “read down” your fines? Sign up at any service desk and a staff member will time your reading. For every 10 minutes you read, we’ll remove $1.00 of overdue fines. And if you read to someone younger, both of you will get credit!

This program is WAY better than what the county libraries offer! And if you’re have kids, you know fines are easy to stack up.

Great way to serve + Get rid of those pesky library fines = AWESOME!!!

Beginning Monday, April 12, through Sunday, April 18, The City Library will host another Food for Fines drive! For every non-perishable food item you bring in, we’ll waive $1.00 in late fees from your library account. Collection fees and item replacement costs will not be waived. All collected items will be donated to the Utah Food Bank; last year, your donations added up to a whopping 6,000 pounds of food!

You can drop your food donation off at the circulation desk of any city library. To find a branch near you, click HERE.
