Did you know that March is Sing with your Child Month?

The imagination place is hosting some fun events in the coming weeks, including an opportinity for service with your child that we wanted to tell you about.  Coming up in March and April, you can attend a free music class at an assisted living facility, where your children can sing right along with the residents!  You do need to RSVP, and these classes tend to fill up fast, so we are letting you know now.

To RSVP online and find out more, click HERE.

A special “NO Girls Allowed club will meet tonight at the Bingham Creek (4:00pm to 5:15pm) and South Jordan (from 7-8pm) libraries. This is geared toward boys between the ages of 7-11, and all sorts of “yucks” are promised!  See the link before for exact locations.

The Library website has been totally re-designed!  They’ve made it much easier to see everything they have going on if you click on “all events” at the bottom of the home page. It’s now divided by categories plus it has the links to each individual library to the right.

**************************************************************************
If you were to ask us for only one cheap wayto have a great time with your kids in the city, we would tell you to take advantage of your local library system!!! What could be better than raising strong readers?  Free books, movies, cd’s, books on tape and more! If you think your kids are too unruly for the library, think again!  Take them to puppet shows, crafts make and takes, book clubs, story times, etc where they are allowed to talk in more than a “six inch whisper”. They will love it and slowly grow to love the quieter parts of the library as well.  We promise!

The March calendar is posted!  Tonight they will be making Faux Carrots and on the 23rd it will be natural dyed eggs! They are now wanting you to go in register ahead of time so that they know how many to expect.

If you haven’t taken a trip to Sunflower Market (in Murray and Orem), drop your mouse and go now!!! No, but we are firm believers in this cute little–kid friendly–small town feelin’—Trader Jo’s–ish kind of place!

They have excellent produce and meat, plus lot’s of stuff you would find at a natural food store for lower prices. Their weekly ad always has a few amazing deals to get you in the door. And if you can withstand the temptation to buy much else, you will have saved a ton of money!
But wait there’s more! The people that work there are actually friendly and happy to help you.  Plus they have this really great kids club, which happens to be the reason we are telling you about this in the first place.

Occasionally on Saturdays they have special events, and after disappearing for a few months, Kids Club is returning in January!  On most 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, generally from 6-7 pm, they have fun little classes for kids that range from scavenger hunts throughout the store, to crafts upstairs. They usually get awesome samples too! Plus, once your kids are members, everytime you check out they can pick a little treasure out of the treasure chest at the register!  So you have built in good behavior bribery.  These classes are first come first serve, as they no longer do sign ups ahead of time.

Oh and on Wednesdays, the ads from the both weeks overlap, so you can get double deals!

Don’t forget about the afterschool activities below, but we wanted to let you know that today there is a Leprchaun celebration at the Calvin S. Smith Library (810 E. 3300 S.) from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.  They will have stories, music and dance plus an adventure to find the pot of gold!

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it a thousand times…take your kids to the library!! Often.  We love to tell you about events at the COUNTY libraries, but don’t forget we are also fortunate to also have all of the CITY libraries with fun FREE stuff going on for families!

And now, the Main library has started hosting afterschool actvities each weekday!  Here is the afterschool line-up:

Monday Night Storytime
Kids and their grownups are invited to a special storytime every Monday at 7:00 p.m. Stories are told in English and Spanish on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month.

Tuesday Afternoon Activities
Don’t miss indoor and outdoor fun every Tuesday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday After-School Crafts
Join us for a fun kids’ craft every Wednesday from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Thursday Gaming
Visit us every Thursday afternoon from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. for board games and Wii gaming.

Friday Afternoon Movies
Join us on Fridays from 2:00-4:00 p.m. for favorite kids’ films.

Oh, and one last thing.  If you have been debating whether or not to get a city library card, here is one great reason to do so.  Kids can read down their own fines! Here’s the details:

Did you know that if you’re under 18, you can “read down” your fines? Sign up at any service desk and a staff member will time your reading. For every 10 minutes you read, we’ll remove $1.00 of overdue fines. And if you read to someone younger, both of you will get credit!

This program is WAY better than what the county libraries offer!  And if you’re have kids, you know fines are easy to stack up.
